Kleberg County is located in the Southeast area of the United States. The County was created on February 27, 1913, from Nueces County. It was later organized on June 27, 1913. Kleberg County was named for Robert J. Kleberg, a pioneer settler in Texas and a soldier of the battle of San Jacinto.

Counties that border the County include; Nueces County to the north, Gulf of Mexico County to the east, Kenedy to the south. Brooks and Jim Wells counties border to the southwest and west. Kleberg County seat is known as Kingsville. Other cities and towns include; Wittmann, Riviera Beach, Riviera, Loyola Beach, and Ricardo.

Kleberg County Ecosystem

Kleberg County covers a total area of 1,090 square miles, from which land covers 881 square miles. The remaining 209 square miles are covered by water. The County’s elevation levels range from sea level to about 150 feet.

The County is situated in a grassy plain with clay and loam soils. It receives an average rainfall of about 26.5 inches while the temperature ranges between 48° to 96°. The County’s growing season is usually 314 days.

The latest United States census bureau shows the County has 31,040 people. Females represent 49.2% of the population, while 50.8% are male. The largest tribe in Kleberg is the white(Hispanic) with 68.3%, followed by white(non-Hispanic) with 20.2%.

Other tribes, black or African American, and Asians, follow with 3.27, 2.94, and 2.24%, respectively. The median age of Kleberg County’s population is 28. In addition, 6.5% are under five years, while 23.9% are below 18 years. 13.2% are 65 years and above.
