Kenedy County was named after a famous rancher, Mifflin Kenedy. The Gulf of Mexico borders the county east, Kleberg County on the north, Brooks and Hidalgo on the west. Kleberg County borders it on the north. The center of the county is at 26°55’ north latitude and 97°40’. The largest town in Kenedy County is Sarita, the county seat, located in northern Kenedy County.  

Kenedy County Topography 

The county seats 1389 square miles and has an elevation ranging from sea level to 100 feet. Kenedy County has sandy soils with light-colored loamy surfaces covering deep molted clay subsoils. The Gulf Coast is covered in salty and sandy soils, with some parts containing greyish black clay. 

Only a tiny percentage of Kenedy County is considered suitable for farming. A significant area of Kenedy County contains scrubby and brush mesquite, with live oak, huisache, post oak, and acacia. The coastal area of Kenedy County has tall bunchgrasses, like the seacoast bluestem, and other grasses like marsh millet, cordgrass, and saltgrass. 

Climate 

The temperatures in Kenedy County range between 47℉ on the low in January and 96℉ at its high in July. Kenedy County has an average temperature of 73°. Rainfall in the area is 26 inches annually. The growing season is 319 days on average. The primary mineral resources in the county are natural gas and oil.  

Kenedy County Population 

According to the 2020 US estimates, Kenedy County has 404 people. According to age and sex, the population calculation is as follows: people under 5 years 4.0%, people under 18 years 24.8%, 65 years and above 16.8%, and females 47.5%. Those who have completed high school are 58%, and those with college degrees are 20%.  

Here’s the origin breakdown: whites alone 90.1%, African American 4.2%, Indian American/Alaska Native 1.7%, Asians 1.7%, Hispanic/Latino 73.3%.   

In the early 21st century, ecotourism, hunting leases, gas and oil production, and ranching were the main economic features of Kenedy County. In 2002, Kenedy County had only 28 ranches covering 474,073 acres, most of which contained pasture. The same year, ranchers in the county earned $8,982,000. 

All agricultural income came from livestock, with beef cattle being the lead agrarian product. 356,000+ barrels of oil and 66,023,029 cubic feet of well gas originated from Kenedy County in 2004.

Kenedy is a small county but has great attraction sites for everyone. There are family-friendly leisure activities and entertainment centers. Some areas include Joe Gulley Park, which is suitable for picnics involving friends and family. The park contains lovely green trees, walking paths, barbeque pits, and extensive playing areas. The park is also a memorial center for World War II veterans.   

Another site to visit is the Desperados Saloon which lets you explore Kenedy’s nightlife. The sports bar offers a good ambiance coupled with trendy music where one can enjoy sports rather than drinks. It is where food and drinks pair to make you happy.
