The State Legislature established Haskell County in 1858. Eventually, it organized the County in 1885 to provide essential services to the people effectively.  

Haskell County covers approximately 2357 square kilometers, and Haskell City remains the official County seat. Additionally, the 2019 US censors placed the population of Haskell at 5726 people. 

Haskell County, located in Southeastern Oklahoma, has a landscape elevation of 500-1500 feet above sea level. Additionally, the San Bois mountain lies in the southern region, and Lake Eufaula covers parts of the west while the Robert S.Kerr Reservoir extends into the county from the north. 

The South Canadian river lies at the northern border with the Mcintosh and Muskogee Counties. 

The County got its name from Charles Ready Haskell and remained home to several cities like Rochester, Haskell, Obrien, and Weinert, among other cities.  

History of Haskell County, Texas 

The State legislature formed the County of Haskell in 1858 from the previously given land to Milam and Fannin Counties. However, the area remained unsettled for almost two decades owing to Indian hostilities.  

The Indians engaged would-be settlers to a fierce war. Therefore, it was only in the 1870s when ranching began to take root after the Indians were defeated and removed from the region.  

In 1876, the Indian’s population had significantly reduced, and the legislature re-established the County. It later organized the County in 1885, allowing for adequate provision of services to the people. 

The legislature named the County for Charles Ready Haskell, and settlements kept growing afterward.
