Baylor is a county in Texas. Baylor is named after Henry W. Baylor. Baylor was a surgeon in the Texas Rangers regiment involved in the Mexican War. Baylor County separated from Fannin County in 1858 and was organized formally in 1879. 

 Baylor County had a population of 3,577 as of 2019, as per the US Census Bureau. It covers 845 square miles and is situated in the North Central of Texas. Baylor County borders Throckmorton County to the south, Archer County to the east, Wilbarger to the north, while Foard and Knox counties are in the west. Baylor is relatively hilly with an elevation of 1,250 feet.   

Seymour is the county seat of Baylor County. 

Farming Activities in Baylor County 

Baylor County lies in the east of the Rolling Red Plains. Ranching is one of the major activities in Baylor County. Residents of Baylor County also widely practice farming. There are approximately ten thousand acres of cropland in the south of the Rolling Red Prairies.  The county has rich soils suitable for crop farming.   

Baylor County experiences periods of drought. However, farmers are still able to get high yields through irrigation farming. An estimated 6,500 acres are under irrigation farming. Common crops in the region include cotton, grain sorghum, and wheat.  There is also ranching which thrives due to the swathes of undulating slopes. In total, an estimate of 155,000 acres is under cultivation. 

In some parts, soil erosion is a significant setback. Since most of the land is sloping, Rivers Wichita and Brazos form the major drainage; Wichita in the north and Brazos in the southern central region. The Little Wichita River drains parts of the eastern region.

Some parts of Baylor County are safer than others. The southern part of the county is safer compared to the whole county. However, the rate of crime in Baylor County is slightly lower than the national average.

City Hall Cinema 

You can enjoy an evening out at the City Hall Cinema. There are movies showing every second and fourth weekend for free. During summer, shows are on Friday and Saturday at 8 pm, while in winter, shows run at 7 pm on Friday, and 6 pm and 8 pm on Saturday. Make sure to visit! 

Salt Fork Recreational Complex 

The Salt Fork Recreational Complex has plenty to offer. There is a kitchen and meeting rooms available on a rental basis, a tennis court, and a Golf Pro Shop in the clubhouse. You can go golfing or in the nine-hole golf course near the main center or you can go fishing: whichever makes you happy! 

The Seymour City Park 

The ultimate point of your family outing! There is plenty to do at Seymour City park, including swimming and golfing. The park has a kitchen, bathrooms, and meeting rooms. There is playground equipment and three covered pavilions. You can make arrangements when you plan to visit. The park is open to the public, but you can arrange a private outing.
