Titus County is in the northeastern part of  Texas. The county dates back to 1846 and is named after Andrew Jackson Titus, a pioneer resident. Mount Pleasant is the largest city in the region. It’s also the county seat of Titus County. 

The region measures 426 square miles, where 406 sq mi is the land and 20 sq mi is water. According to the 2019 census report, the county’s population is 31,247. Even so, the region has an estimated population of 32,764 in 2021, resulting in an annual growth rate of 0.02%. It’s the 91st largest county in Texas. 

Titus County is in the 4th congressional district and the 1st district in the Texas Senate. 

County Topography 

 The landscape of Titus County is between nearly level to rolling. Most parts of this region are gently rolling with an elevation of 250 to 450 feet above the average sea level. The area’s highest average temperature is 95°(July), while the lowest is 35°(January). 

Soils in this county have two natural divisions. Their topographic position or their formation distinguishes them. Therefore, they have lowland soils and alluvial sedimentary or upland soils, respectively. 

Demographics 

The population of Titus County, Texas, comprises various ethnic groups. Even so, 85.5% of the inhabitants in Titus County, Texas, are U.S. citizens. The major ones include:

  • White (Hispanic) (25.2%) 
  • Others (Hispanic) (16.2%) 
  • Black American (Non-Hispanic) (8.93%)

Transport System 

The county has five major highways, namely U.S. Highway 67 and 271, state highway 11 and 49, and Interstate 30. U.S. Highway 67 and Interstate 30 cross Titus County from east to west, while U.S. Highway 271 traverses this region starting north to south. In addition, the Texas Utilities and the Union Pacific railroads cross the county. 

Recreational Facilities 

The county has areas set aside for leisure or preservation of natural or cultural resources and government administration. 

The top-ranking parks include Oaklawn Park, Dellwood Park, Lake Bob Sandlin State Park, Fair Park, Ocotillo Siding, Edwards Park, Keith Park, Jurney Park, Sam Parker Field, and Monticello Park. 

Natural Resources 

The neighborhood of Titus County has been a habitation site for a long time. However, you can still find mineral resources in the area. These include gas, oil, industrial sand, lignite coal, and ceramic. 

Cities in Titus County 

The county has four major cities, as outlined below. 

Mount Pleasant: the city is the largest and the county seat of Titus County, Texas. It covers an area of 41.41 km² and an elevation of 123m. Its diverse culture and people make it an appropriate place to live and raise a family. It has all the facilities of a big city. 

Talco: this city sits in the northwestern part of the county, on Farm Road 71 and U.S. Highway 271. It derives its name from a local candy bar – Texas-Arkansas-Louisiana Country. It covers a 199 ha area and is 111m above the average sea level. 

Winfield: the small city in Titus, Texas, measures 204 ha and has an elevation of 139m. It’s on the St. Louis Southwestern Railway, Interstate Highway 30, and the U.S. Highway 67, in the western area of Titus County. 

Miller’s Cove: the residential community is south of Winfield City, Interstate Highway 30. The city covers an area of 44 ha, rising 135m from the average sea level.
