Stonewall county lies in the North Central Plains, northwest Texas just south of the Caprock. To the north, it is bordered by King county, to the south by Jones and Fisher counties, and Kent County on the West. Centrally, the county lies approximately latitude 33°12′ N, and Longitude 100°15′ W defines the county’s location. Abilene lies about 60 miles to the northwest of Aspermont. The county’s name was a tribute after Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson, a general. Aspermont is the county seat.

Economic Activity

In 1982, the county’s land was primarily used for farming. Most agricultural income in the county was generated by wheat, hay, peanuts, cotton, and oats. Several ranches may be found in the southern area of the county. Mainly livestock and cattle products support the community’s economic well-being. Oil, natural gas, gypsum, sand, and gravel are only a few of the earth’s natural resources.

Topography

A total of 926 square miles make up Texas’ Rolling Plains region. Clay and loam predominate in the eastern hemisphere instead of the neutral to slightly alkaline soil found in the western hemisphere. In these soils, mesquite and other species like mesquite bunchgrass and other short grasses thrive. There are also cedar, hackberry, cottonwood, chinaberry, and shin oak trees in this area. A rainfall total of 22.36 inches is expected on an annual basis. Lows of 30 degrees Fahrenheit are not uncommon in January. As July progresses, the temperature might rise as high as 99° F. The growing season lasts, on average, 220 days.

Brazos River separates into two branches under the county’s jurisdiction. The Salt Fork divides the region’s northern half. The Salt Fork joins the Double Mountain Fork in western Haskell County, which serves as the county’s southern border. Tonk and Croton Creeks meander through the area to add to the rocky feel. Landforms such as undulating plains and steep hills may be found all across the county. More than half of the terrain is gently sloping, while the rest is flat. It is situated at a height of between 1,500 and 2,400 feet above sea level. The 2,400-foot-tall Double Mountain is a prominent landmark in the county’s geography.

Financial Transactions in Stonewall County

You may get information on county budgets on the internet. The county uses this strategy to make its financial processes as open as possible. Both the administration and capital projects are funded by separate budgets in the county.

It is important to note that all of these costs are included in both budgets: property taxes, sales taxes, fees, penalties and court costs. As part of their discussion, they also touch on compensation, benefits, and equipment and supplies.

The treasurer’s report and the annual financial report are two ways an organization’s earnings and expenses might be documented. The accuracy of all paperwork and the completion of all tasks on time are audited annually by auditors. For the advantage of the general public, all public meetings are broadcasted live on the internet.
