Jim Hogg County is located in south Texas and lies in the  Rio Grande Plain region, 66 miles west of the Gulf Coast and 28 miles north of the Mexican border. From Brooks and Duval counties’ portions, the county was formed in 1913. The county was named after Jim Hogg, the 20th governor of Texas. 

Webb, Duval, Jim Wells, Brooks, Starr, and Zapata counties border the county. The county has an estimated population of  5,216 and a growth rate of 0.15%. 

Jim Hogg’s county seat is Hebbronville, located in the north-central part of the county and lies at the junction of State highways 16, 285, and 359. The county’s other communities include; Agua Nueva, Altavista, Guerra, Randado, and Thompsonville. 

Jim Hogg Ecosystem 

The county is made of 1,136 square miles of flat to gently rolling terrain. The typical vegetation in the area is grasses, scrub brush, chaparral, and mesquite.  

The east soils are sandy, although some areas have a light color or loamy surfaces over reddish subsoils. Subsequently, the rest of the county has either earthy textures over deep reddish or mottled clayey subsoils with limestone. 

Mineral Resources include caliche, clay, uranium, oil, and gas. The county temperatures range from 44° F to 69° in January and 73° to 99° in July. In addition, the growing season lasts 305 days, while Rainfall averages twenty-three inches a year.

Jim Hogg District Court 

The Jim Hogg district court has three departments: judicial court, district clerk, and district attorney.  

The judicial court is led by Baldemar Garza, the 229th Judicial District Judge. Serving under him is Eduina G. Ramos, the Administrator/Interpreter, and Marissa T. Estrada, the Court Coordinator. Marisela Chapa, Ramiro Hernandez, and Roy Marichalar serve as Court Coordinator, court reporter, and  Court Bailiff.  

Zonia G. Morales is the County and District Clerk whose responsibility is to keep district court records safe and well organized. She is also in charge of recording district court proceedings and recording the issued executions and returns.  Entering all judgments of the court, administering trust accounts, and child support payments for minors also falls under her jurisdiction.   

Gocha A. Ramirez is the District Attorney229th Judicial District. He is the state representative in felony cases. He is also mandated to prosecute juvenile offenders, representing the Texas Department of Protective & Regulatory services in rescuing abused minors, among other responsibilities.  

Jim Hogg Public Library 

Jim Hogg public library is located in the heart of Hebbronville, Texas. All-time readers and tourists get a lifetime opportunity to sample a collection of books as it contains 17,232 volumes. The library also serves a population of 5,265 residents and circulates 9,000 items per year.
