Hansford County, Texas, was established in 1876. The legislature officially organized the County in 1889. Also, it named Spearman as the seat of Hansford County. 

Hansford County was named after John M. Hansford, a judge and a Texas State congressman. Its biggest cities remain Spearman and Gruver.  

Additionally, the County has a population of 5,257 as per the latest 2021 censors. It represents a population growth rate of -1.33%. 

Furthermore, Hansford County covers an area of approximately 2383 Km2. Hansford County is found on the northern edge of the Panhandle. Oklahoma County borders it on the north. Sherman County on the west, Ochiltree County on the east, and Hutchinson County on the south. 

History of Hansford County, Texas 

The Texas State Legislature voted to form Hansford County in 1876. The lawmakers curved Hansford County from the Bexas and Young Counties. Thus, Hansford town became the first seat of the new County of Hansford. 

Then in 1909, Anders L.Mordt started to encourage Norwegian farmers to settle in the Northern areas of Hansford County. Due to this influx, the Norwegians created a rural community of farmers and named it Oslo. 

Two hundred and twenty-one farms were established by 1920, and the Santa Fe railway finally reached Spearman from North Texas. Moreover, Gruver became the second largest city after Spearman. T Gruver grew due to the extension of the Chicago Gulf railway to the south of the County.  

Hansford County grew over the years and by the 1980s, its economy had developed from a purely agricultural one to a more complex economy based on oil and transportation.
