Delta County, Texas, was established in 1883 by the Colorado legislature. This county was named after Delta city, a city located in the Delta of the Uncompahgre River. Its primary economic activities are agriculture, mining, and it majors its development in water and land development.   

Delta County is located in the northeastern region of Texas. In the 2010 US Census, Delta County had a population of 30,952. Cooper City is the largest town in Delta and is the seat of the county.   

Delta County Offices 

Delta County has several county offices established to serve the county’s best interest and deliver services to its residents. These include the delta court, sheriff’s office, county attorney, tax collector and assessor, and the clerk’s office.

Delta District Court 

Delta County has two district courts; the 8th and the 62nd district courts. Judge Eddie Northcutt heads the 8th district court.

Roles of the County Tax Assessor 

Delta County has the tax assessor /collector office divided into departments. Each department has a distinct role to play.  

The departments include: 

  • The tax assessor and collector department. 
  • Motor vehicles department. 
  • Wildlife department. 
  • The voter registration department.  

The tax collection/assessment department is responsible for tax collection in all of the Delta county jurisdictions. These areas include the Delta county, the Municipality district, Cooper and within the city, emergency service district, Pecan Gap city from the Road to the Bridge region of Delta county.  

The motor vehicles department is responsible for registering all motor vehicles in Delta county, issuing new titles to motor vehicles, and transferring motor vehicle titles. It is a requirement that all new motor vehicles in Delta county get registered and acquire a license. The vehicle owners need to provide correct identification details when they register or transfer their motor vehicle titles. They also need to provide their insurance cover.  

Another department is the branch office of the Wildlife and park department. This department is tasked with the following roles. 

  • The wildlife department deals with boat registration and other vessels  
  • The wildlife department transfers the titles of motors, boats, and vessels  
  • The wildlife department renews lost titles 

Delta County Census Statistics 

The United States Census Bureau statistics indicate that Delta county has a population of 31,952, based on the 2020 census. The dependency ratio in Delta county is high as the population under 18 years is 19.65%. Individuals above 65 years old constitute 26.8% of the total population.  

The whites dominate the Delta population, with a 94.8% composure. The Hawaiian and Pacific island natives are the least with a population constitution of 0.1 percent only.    

Delta County has 11, 883 households with 14,912 housing units, a statistic taken in 2020. The majority of the population is literate, as 97% of the total population are graduates of high schools and higher rankings.  

Delta County Cultural Events 

Delta County pays tribute to its culture by hosting cultural celebrations. This is a way of remembering and appreciating the county’s history and pride in its heritage.  

Sheep ranching is celebrated in May of every year. There is a Hotchkiss Sheep and dog trial on the celebration day. 

Crawford Pioneer Days are honored in June of every year. This is an honor to Crawford’s western heritage. The day’s events include melodrama, entertainment from artists within the locality, local art exhibition, parade, and elk-calling events.  

In July, the Little Britches Rodeo of the western slope is celebrated. This is the most extensive cultural celebration in Delta county.  

In September of every year, the tree pow wow of the council festivals takes place in Confluence Park. During the festival, there are drum beats, tribal dances. This celebration lasts for three days. 

Delta County Child Welfare 

Delta County has a child welfare program that aims to protect children and their rights. They receive reports on child abuse and act on them.  

Every citizen in Delta county is responsible for reporting child neglect and abuse cases to the welfare board. Through this, they prevent child abuse acts. You are supposed to call 9-1-1 if you witness any child-abuse related case.
