Named after Nicholas Mosby Dawson, the county was founded in 1905 and has a population of 12,728. Dawson also boasts of a substantial veteran population of 579.

The local Community Theater hosts many fascinating stage performances, including musical concerts and plays all year round. The Community Theater is one of the oldest theaters in operation around Texas.  

The Original Chicken-Fried Steak Festival in Lamesa is one of the most famous events in Dawson County. It features crafts, car shows, and a cook-off, among other unique activities. The most notable activity of the festival is the hot air balloon show.

Dawson offers several ways to relax. There are many recreational activities where you can have a great time and also get to exercise. There are several amenities in the New Lamar Forest Park.

You can enjoy your favorite sporting activity at the W. M Weaver Youth Sports Complex, including swimming. The N. 22nd Street Park features a community pool where you can cool off in summer.

There Are Several Cities and Towns in Dawson 

Lamesa 

Being the county seat, Lamesa is a famous city in Texas. It may not be a popular city in the US, but it is a great city. Lamesa is a small but beautiful destination for tourists. It is full of amazing attractions that will make you visit over and over again.  

There are attractions and amusement parks to keep you busy all through your visit. The Putt-Putt Fun Center or the Fun City of Odessa are just some of the fascinating entertainment points. The Park and Putt Family Fun is also a fun place you will not want to miss while in Lamesa. If you are looking for a place to relax, then think of Lamesa.  

There are many fairgrounds that host concerts and gun shows from midday. In case you want to enjoy yourself out of town, then the Panhandle South Plains is a perfect place to be. Not too far from Lamesa, there are many family activities, including sightseeing and nature walks.
