Colorado County is in central Texas, named after the Colorado River. It is 60 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico and borders five other counties; Wharton County, Lavaca County, Jackson County, Fayette County, and Austin County.
Colorado’s shape is rectangular with a bit of strip extending southwest. It is 964 square miles and has a population of 21,224 people as per the 2019 U.S. Census. Colorado County is level ground with an elevation of 150-425 feet above sea level. About 20% of Colorado County is farmland.

Columbus is the largest city in Colorado County and also the county seat.
It is a beautiful city located along the Colorado River banks. Colorado Emergency Medical Services
Colorado County Emergency Medical Services (CCEMS) was founded in 1972. It serves the whole County. CCEMS has three stations with twenty-two paid staff members, among them an Administrative Assistant and an EMS director. Additionally, CCEMS has four fully equipped ambulances in Weimar, Eagle Lake, and Columbus. It also serves Rice Medical Center and Columbus Community Hospital for transfer cases to Austin or Houston. The units are equipped with Lucas 2’s, Stryker stair chairs, and Stryker Power Pro stretchers.

Gorman Falls
If you love nature, Gorman Falls is an ideal location for you. Being the largest waterfall in Texas in both volume and height, it is a beauty to behold. You can go hiking in Gorman falls and reconnect with nature. The waterfall is seventy feet, and the water cascades forming travertine and is covered by vegetation. The falls are open to the public throughout the year. Swimming is not permitted in the fall to preserve the travertine.
The Big Bend National Park
There is a host of activities to do at the Big Bend National Park. You can do stargazing, biking, rafting, and hiking. You can also camp inside the park and enjoy the park’s unique nature. The park is extensive, and covers hot springs, falls, rivers, deserts, and mountains.

Temperatures are highest in Colorado County in August at a median of 95.5°. Temperatures are favorable in April, October, and November, where the average is 70-85°. Annually, there are 101.9 days when the recorded temperature is over 90°. This makes Colorado hotter than most places in Texas. Nighttime temperature in January is the lowest at 41.2°, making it more pleasant than any other place in Texas.
The humid season in Colorado County is from May through September. In terms of humidity, June, July, and August are unfavorable; the rest of the year is pleasant. It is the least humid between October and April.
