Chambers County, Texas, is located southeast of the Houston metropolitan area. The county got its name from John H. Chambers, who served as a member of Congress from 1849 to 1851. He also represented the state at large during that period. 

The county seat and largest city in Chambers County is Anahuac.  

Chambers County Population 

According to the US Census Bureau statistics, Chambers has a population of 43,837 with a land area of 2,256 km².  

Even though the population is high in Chambers, there is still a stable economy to support the county’s citizens. However, about 9% of the population is unemployed. 

It is projected that the population might double in 2040 because of increased jobs and housing development.  

However, if you live in Chambers county, expect higher property taxes than other counties.  

In fact, according to the Zillow Foundation Texas, the average home value in Chambers county is $275,474, making it one of the most expensive places to buy real estate in all of Texas. 

Attractions in Chambers 

Chambers county has picnic sites like Lake Livingston State Park, Lake Livingston Dam Recreation Area, and Lake Livingston State Natural Area.  

If you prefer something different, you can visit the historic town of Anahuac, where there are old buildings dating back to the 1800s.  

Museums in Anahuac include the Chamberlin Museum, the Old Jail Museum, and the Historic Courthouse Museum.  

Another attraction worth visiting is the Fort Bend County Historical Society & Museum. Here, you can learn about the history of the region.

Education in Chambers 

The educational system in Chambers comprises public schools, private schools, colleges, universities, and vocational training centers. Public school students attend either Anahuac High School or Anahuac Middle School.  

Private schools include St. Joseph Catholic Academy, Trinity Christian Academy, and Westwood Baptist Bible College. All these schools offer high-standard education programs.  

Colleges and Universities include the University of Houston-Downtown, Southwestern Assemblies of God University, and Southwest Texas Junior College.  

Adjacent Vocational Training Centre includes Lone Star Community College, North Harris Montgomery Community College, and Brazoria County Adult Education Center. 

Healthcare in Chambers 

If you need healthcare services, you can go to any hospital in Chambers, including; Memorial Hermann Hospital – Baytown Campus, Methodist Brackenridge Hospital, and the Woodlands Medical Center. 

The county has a well-established emergency system in case of health emergencies. For example, the nearest fire station is on FM 518 near IH 10.  

Other medical facilities include Anahuac Health Care Center, Brazosport Family Medicine Clinic, and Canyon Creek Surgery Center. All offer 24-hour service. 

Transportation in Chambers 

Chambers has several transportation channels, including, roads, airways, railroads, waterways, and seaports around the county. Major highways are clear and offer smooth rides. You can drive or request a cab from one of the taxi companies operating in the area.  

Airports serve both domestic and international flights.

People take part in religious activities, sports competitions, community gatherings, and social clubs.  

Some examples of local organizations include the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and Lions Club. You can join any club and meet new friends who share similar interests with yours. 

Towns in Chambers County 

 The major town that serves as the county seat is the Anahuac, where most county offices are located. The town has businesses, including banks, restaurants, grocery stores, and gas stations. 

Additionally, the other towns are Baytown, Hankamer, Mont Belvieu, Stowell, and Willisville. Each town has something to offer its visitors.  

Local Government and County Offices in Chambers 

The elected board is the Commissioners Court which governs the county. It comprises four members who represent various districts within the county.
